A new tool for monitoring clinical research performance in Quebec
CATALIS has announced the implementation of a new automated performance report that will allow public institutions in the health and social service network to more easily access their clinical research performance data.
This new tool, which was developed with the partners of the CATALIS Initiative and pilot-tested by five university hospital centres, is available since March 1, 2019 to all institutions in the network connected to the Nagano data processing system.
This report will provide institutions in the network an overall view of their clinical research activities; for example, they will be able to see the number of projects by phase, funding type, progress, etc. The report will also compile overall review times, including ethics, scientific and site specific reviews.
“Up to now, most health and social service institutions in Quebec measured their clinical research performance indicators manually. We thought it would be appropriate to offer them a simple tool for the automated, standardized collection of these indicators. This tool will be important for demonstrating the operational excellence of the clinical research institutions and for promoting private investment in this field,” explained Danika Laberge, General Director of CATALIS Québec.
“We have begun to use the new automated institutional performance report at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal. This tool gives us both an overall and detailed picture of all our clinical research activities and allows us to better target our actions to optimize our ability to take advantage of opportunities,” stated Carole Jabet, Assistant Director of Research at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM).
Although this tool was developed solely for institutions’ internal use, aggregated data could eventually be made available by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec.
An updated version of the report will be developed in the coming year to add indicators related to subject recruitment.
